Circumstantial evidence indicates that Thomas Berry Sr., of Clark, KY., could be the son of Thomas Berry and the grandson of Garrett Berry (both of Middlesex County, VA.). Thomas Berry and Anne Smith, of Middlesex, VA., had a son Thomas in 1727 (birth year fits for Thomas Berry Sr. of Clark, KY).

Thomas Berry and his wife, Catherine, had a child in Middlesex, VA., in about 1750 (birth year fits for John Berry, son of Thomas Berry Sr. of Clark, KY.). In 1768 and 1769, Thomas Berry and wife, Catherine sold land in Amelia County, VA. While it is reasonable to think Thomas Berry and Catherine of Amelia, VA., could be the same people as Thomas and Catherine of 1750 record in Middlesex, VA., we should not consider it a fact without additional information.

Thomas Berry Sr., of Clark County, KY., died in about 1824. His will named his children, but not his wife. A series of land transactions in VA, and the Military Pension application of his son Thomas Jr., tell us that Thomas Sr., and his family had lived in King and Queen and King William counties of VA. He moved from King William County to Amelia County, VA., and then to Mecklenburg County, VA. The record is not so clear after Mecklenburg, but it appears he moved to N.C., then Mercer County, KY., and ended up in Clark County, KY., by 1794.

The land records of King William, Amelia, and Mecklenburg, included references to Thomas Berry (sometimes Beary, Bery, or Berrey) as the seller, buyer, witness, or boundary in land transactions of those counties.

Thomas moved from King William County in 1762. In November of 1762, Thomas Beary, of King William, sold land in Amelia. At the same time, Thomas Beary purchased land in Amelia. In 1763, Thomas Berry witnessed a deed in Amelia County. In 1768 and 1769, Thomas Berry and his wife, Catherine sold land in Ameia County.

Thomas moved from Amelia in about 1769. In September 1769, Thomas Berrey of Amelia County purchased land in Mecklenburg. He purchased additional Mecklenburg land in 1770. Thomas is found in other land transactions in Mecklenburg through 1788, sometimes with his son Thomas Jr., John, and daughter Sarah.

In 1794 Thomas Berry Sr. purchased 400 acres in Clark County, KY., from John Rogers (Clark County General Index to Deeds). The tax lists for Clark County, KY., show that Thomas Berry Sr., Thomas Berry Jr., and John Berry paid tax on Hancock Creek land beginning in 1795. In 1809, John Berry is missing from the tax list, but his son, Lewis is paying tax on Hancock Creek land.
